Shop Talk - Grow Your Business Part Two
by: Teresa King

It's good to see you are interested in this project. If you have
not read the first part of this article because you landed here
by a search engine, click here now. It's definitely worth the
read.

Okay, did you get some great ideas for this beauty shop?
Could you picture it in your mind's eye?

I sat in that beauty shop and my mind would not stop buzzing
with ideas to create her business so that in just a few years it
would be profitable enough for her to sell, and/or own and have
two beauty operators in her shop.  AND have the customers
keep that shop going, and even expanding to a WHOLE
Chain of Shops.  (Watch out for me, I get a little carried away)

I love to think big. Don't you?

Here are mine:

I would probably raise the price a tad. I certainly would not
lower it.

A senior discount... 10%
A children's haircut discount 10%
A bring a friend and get 25% off your next visit
and your friend gets 10%.

A win a haircut drawing. (This would capture those walk-ins
address, phone number and even email)

Get a net presence with a website.

Set up a website with a reminder script that your customers
can use to remind themselves of appointments by email.
A handy script that is helpful and keeps reminding your
customer that you are the helpful company that reminds
them of their appointments. They can't forget you when you
are being helpful.

Create a hair tip newsletter that goes out once a month, and
build a customer base for future sales to a book you may
write, or affiliate programs you might join.

Accept credit cards!  It is very important to make things
as easy as possible for your customer.  If you only take
cash, you are cutting your own throat.

Talk to local shop owners, to set up a Joint Venture.
You pass out discounts to their place of business and in
return they pass out discounts to your business.

Find out the laws in your land as far as passing out
flyers.  She could create one page ad sheet with her
business and agreeing neighoring businesses and get
flyers out to the public.

I then thought, she has a computer, she has a printer.
Why not set up a take a picture after your new hair-do
with a webcam.  Set up the backdrop, snap it, put it on
disk, or send to the customer's email as an attachment.
If they don't have a computer, then for an extra fee, print
it on glossy photo paper.

Okay, I had a slight advantage over you because I know the
town and I have seen the shop, but I am guessing that
you have come up with some great business strategies.

My first advantage is in the knowing that we have a postoffice
in this town. It's not just any old post office.

NO ONE gets mail to their door if they live inside the city limits.
This means there are people at the post office every day. Car
after car of local people who are strolling into the post office to
get to their mail.

Its heaviest traffic times are 9 a.m, 3 p.m and 5:30 p.m

With the above thoughts and your own thoughts of ways to
improve a local business, let's go to the third part of this
to see how we can use these ideas and more to improve your
online business. Click Here
